The chill - out lounge @ planet RELAXO (part one)

Hi there. This is a respons to Dylan Jones' great book "iPod, Therefore I Am" in which he shares some of his favorite all time chill-out songs. I thought it would be nice to share mines too. I still play these records very often at the clubs. So check it out;

Being boring - Pet Shop Boys
Way back in the summer of 2002 at Antonio's Coastline (Ibiza) I usud to mix the instrumental version with some of the greatest American, English and French poets in history. People usually reacting very excited to it. Haha. I'm a huge fan of The Pet Shop Boys and "Being Boring" was one of their finest moments. It's hauntingly beautiful. Yasushi Ide presents lonesome echo strings - Plein Soleil (Masters at Work mix)

Geez, what a great song! Very mellow, very deep. Pure beauty and very hard to find.

Mary J. Blige - Mary Jane, all night long

The beat at the beginning sounds a little bit like MJ's Billie Jean, doesn't it? Of corse it was based on the original of The Mary Jane Girls, but Puff Daddy did a great job by transforming it into a smookin' hot nineties jam. This song is the bomb.

Loose Ends - Slow Down

Loose Ends achieved their first success with the well known tune "Hangin' On A String (Contemplating)" in 1985, what a magnificent year that was! The disc was produced in the U.S., as was their 1986 hit "Slow Down" (later used as the theme song for MuchMusic's Soul in The City program). I sometimes mix the instrumental version with acapella's of modern rap-songs, like 50 cent's " Just a little bit", or N.A.S.' Hiphop's dead. That often sounds amazing. Loose Ends also wrote "Let me be the one" of Five Star, one of my favorite all time soulclassics.

Groove Armada - Get down (Erick's Bossanova Mix)

Groove Armada announced that they're producing Kylie Minogue's comeback album. I'm looking forward to it! Get down is the great dance smash from 2007. I prefer to play the extended mix. BTW: the clip isn't made by David Lynch ;-)

Linda Clifford - Runaway Love

Curtis Mayfield's protegé Linda Clifford always brings you in a saturday night fever kinda' mood. Gospel with a capital G. Pfiew!

Jill Scott - Golden (The Professor Stretch Remix)

It wasn't a commercial release back in 2004, this is a very rare tune, and one of the greatest drum'n bass records of all time.

Herb Alpert - Rise

New jacks think this is Biggie's "Hypnotize". Puffy was smart for sampling this song. "Rise" ran over seven minutes in its full version; the mix played on radio omits the third and fourth verses and the bridge, and shortens the outro by nearly a minute. I can imagine everyone's smokin' weed while listening to this jam back then. 1979 was the best! If music's the food of life, I wanna get fat on jazz.
